Attention Phase 1 District Special Education Directors-Important information from BSE

Greetings Phase 1 District Special Education Directors,

You are receiving this information because your District is in the Phase 1 cycle and your District's Special Education Plan component in the Comprehensive Planning Web Application must be completed and submitted to the Bureau of Special Education by November 30, 2012 for the Special Education Advisers' review and the Bureau's approval.

Here is some information for review.

  1. Phase 1 Districts are required to submit their final sections of the Special Education Plan to their advisers for approval by November 30, 2012.
  2. The Special Education Plan required sections to be completed are located in the Comprehensive Planning Web Application.
  3. These sections need to be completed for Phase 1 District only and for this year:
     *   Under Core Foundations-Special Education
     * Under Assurances- Special Education Facilities, Least Restrictive Environment Facilities, Special Education Support Services, Special Education Contracted Services
     * Under District Level Plan- Special Education Personnel Development.
  4. Phase 1 Districts do not need to redo their Program Profiles or send assurances because they have already done that in either May or August of 2012.
  5. The Bureau of Special Education Advisers will have until December 30, 2012 to approve Districts' final completed Special Education Plans.

Many districts have completed their Special Education Plans and are ready to submit them for approval. Here are the steps to follow.

Submission

1. When Phase 1 Districts have completed their Special Education Plans, districts will send an email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> stating that their Special Education Plan is complete.

2. That email will go to Sheri Moyer at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit 15.

3. Sheri will maintain a spreadsheet recording the dates of Phase 1 submissions.

4. Special Education Advisers will review the Special Education Plans within the Comprehensive Planning Web Application.

The Bureau has a deadline to meet for approving or disapproving each Districts plan based on Federal Government regulations. Our process for completion this year is as follows.

Please contact your Special Education Adviser if you have any questions regarding your Special Education Plan. Please contact the Help Desk at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit (717-732-8403) if you have any technical questions.

Thank you for your cooperation during this transition time.
